A Guide To Spending New Year In Morzine
After the merriment of Christmas come the parties and festivities to ring in the New Year. It’s an extra special time to be in the mountains with everybody in high spirits, spending time with family and friends, looking forward to what the future will bring.
If you’re out enjoying the slopes of Morzine, take a look at our top 5 recommendations to see in this New Year!
- Icy Treasure Hunt
Get the children involved with a twist on the classic treasure hunt - finding goodies hidden in the blocks of ice! The kids will love it and it’s free.
- Ice Hockey
The Morzine Avoriaz Les Gets Penguins (The HCMAG’s for short) are often playing at the Skoda Arena and watching them makes for a brilliant night out. The passionate fans make such a vibrant atmosphere, you’ll easily get as enthusiastic as they are – go Penguins!
(We advise booking tickets in advance, they are approx. €16 for adults, €10 for children)
- New Year's Eve Fireworks & Celebrations
The tradition of fireworks at New Year is one that stretches across the world and Morzine is no exception. The torch lit descent at the Stade du Pleney is followed by a spectacular fireworks display, lighting up the sky. Afterwards, there’s an open-air party outside the tourist office with DJ music until the early hours. Entry is free and early attendance is recommended.
Our top tip for NYE: if you’re off out to a bar or restaurant, plan ahead as some venues will require a ticket and you don’t want to miss out!
- Night Skiing in Chatel
Chatel is another charming village in the Portes du Soleil ski area and every Thursday they offer night skiing at the Linga ski area. They also play music for you to listen to as you ski. It’s free to enter but is condition dependent.
- The Umbrella Dance Show
After the energy of New Years Eve, why not try something more relaxed on New Years day? Enjoy a ballet performance with cadenced lighting and colourful umbrellas to an energetic and exotic repertoire at the Place de l’Office de Tourisme.
We can’t imagine being anywhere else for New Year. With so much going on, you’re bound to find something great to do in Morzine.
Happy New Year from all of us at The Retreat!
